MAY 2020, COVID-19 Phase I

Instrumentation will be up and running.

Face mask (or shield), gloves, and googles required.

All persons entering the facility will be required to be trained on the following new precautions.

  1. Only 2 people allowed in lab at any given time.
    1. This will be controlled by appointment only, appointment controlled by Manager, Dr. Richard Staples.
    2. Submission of request for Single Crystal Services is now online at
      www2.chemistry.msu.edu/Facilities/Crystallography
      After online submission received, appointment to drop off sample will be made.
    3. Submission for use of Powder Diffractometer will be via the Calendar program in addition to the following guidelines and requirements for Chemistry Building Room 582.
  2. Person operating or running instrument will have first priority for lab access.
    1. Microscope use, only 1 person only at any given time. (no Sharing)
    2. b. Microscope will be wiped down with wipes thoroughly after use and the new user will also wipe down the microscope prior to using.
    3. Gloves worn while mounting crystals, these are not those that should be used for chemical reactions.
    4. User will ensure that that the instrument, keyboard, mouse, and common touched areas are wiped down.
    5. Once data collection has been started laboratory access will be limited to only those that need to be in the lab.

Violation of any of these procedures or any other regulations issued by MSU, College of Natural Science and the Department of Chemistry will result in loss of the ability to use the resources of the Center and whatever discipline governed by any other department.
