Repurposing Enzymes to Construct
Biosynthetic Pathways toward Non-natural
Bioactive Compounds.

The Walker Group at Michigan State University

The Walker laboratory uses interdisciplinary methods to evaluate the application of enzyme catalysts (acquired from various sources: bacteria, plants, yeast, etc.) with non-native substrates to transform natural compounds or synthetically-derived chemicals to novel products. The genes encoding these enzymes can be transferred to a suitable chassis organism to potentially produce in vivo an assortment of bioactive molecules.
