Molecular Models of Carbohydrates

Sucrose

In the following model, the carbon atoms are dark gray, hydrogen is cyan and oxygen is red. There are nine chiral centers. The five centers in the glucose ring are labeled with a yellow asterix; the four fructose ring centers are marked in magenta. The anomeric carbon atoms will be colored green when the first button is clicked.

The Anomeric Effect

In the following model of axial 2-methoxy-tetrahydropyran, the carbon atoms are dark gray, hydrogen is cyan, oxygen is red and the nonbonding electron pairs are blue. The anomeric relationships of donor electron pairs and oxygen acceptors will be colored green when the appropriate button is pushed.
