Reactions of Aldehydes and Ketones
Organic chemical reactions generally have three components: Reactants, Reagents & Products.
In this problem we shall consider three isomeric carbonyl reactants:
3-methyl-2-butanone | |
3-methylbutanal | |
3-pentanone |
|
These compounds may be reacted with six different reagents:
Jones' reagent CrO3 in H3O(+)
C6H5MgBr in ether, followed by H3O(+)
excess C2H5OH Acid catalyst, heat (–H2O) |
NaBH4 in CH3OH | |
(CH2)5NH piperidine, acid, heat (–H2O)
N2H4, KOH heat (–H2O) |
