THE GREEK INTERPRETERS

On Wednesday, October 25th, twenty three members of the Greek interpreters met at Hershey's Steak and Seafood restaurant in East Lansing for our Fall meeting. This was our first meeting following the departure of Dr. Howard Brody (aka the Foulest Antecedent), our leader for a quarter century, for Texas. The story selected for study and discussion was "The Resident Patient".

The meeting opened with the customary Canonical Toasts to Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft Holmes, second Mrs. Watson and The Woman. Following the dinner, a resolution of the quiz was carried out by Bill Reusch (the chemist). This quiz and many earlier quizzes may be viewed here.
Our discussion of this story focussed in part on the curious revision of the opening paragraphs that appeared in the Strand Magazine original that took place when the collected stories of The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes were published in book form. This textual change has been discussed in detail by Leslie Klinger. At the meeting's conclusion, Ted Lopushinski recited Vincent Starrett's "221B" poem, followed by our singing of The Anthem.
