THE GREEK INTERPRETERS

On Wednesday, April 19th, twenty nine members of the Greek interpreters met at Hershey's Steak and Seafood restaurant in East Lansing for our Spring meeting. There was an undertone of sadness on this occasion, because Dr. Howard Brody (aka the Foulest Antecedent) was leaving us for a position in Texas. Howard has served as our inspirational leader over the past quarter century, and will be profoundly missed. To reflect the loss to our scion, the story selected for study and discussion was "The Greek Interpreter". The last time this had been done was eleven years ago, in honor of a return visit by Donald Yates (our Melas). In a further link to the earlier meeting, many questions were selected from the quiz provided by Etta Abrahams on that occasion.

The meeting opened with the customary Canonical Toasts to Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft Holmes and The Woman. Charles Press (Message Boy) then offered a special toast to Howard Brody (our Dr. Watson) in lieu of the usual second Mrs. Watson toast. Following the dinner, Mike DeGrow (Inspector Alec MacDonald) presented an 1890 Beekeeping book, autographed by all attending members, to Howard. Resolution of the quiz was carried out by Bill Reusch (the chemist), who supplemented Etta Abrahams' questions with a few of his own. This quiz and many earlier quizzes may be viewed here.
At the meeting conclusion, Howard Brody recited Vincent Starrett's "221B" poem, followed by our singing of The Anthem. Some photographs commemorating this occasion are displayed below.
