Welcome....
I am an Academic Specialist Emeritus in the Michigan State University Department of Chemistry. My primary responsibility was [note: "Emeritus" means "retired"] operating the Crystallography Service (small molecule single crystal X-ray structure determination laboratory) and my secondary responsibility was supporting the Chemical Visualization Facility. Additional responsibilities, within the Department of Chemistry, included: custodian of all radioisotope sources; manager of the Cobalt-60 irradiator facility; radiation safety officer; and assistant to the department safety officer. Perhaps my most interesting responsibility during my last 5 years was designing, maintaining, and upgrading the web site for the Department of Chemistry. This provided the challenges of making a cohesive web site out of a somewhat random collection of web pages, to design three evolutions of the site to give a fresh "look" and to improve usability, to make the coding of the web pages conform to html and css standards, and to make the web site as accessible as possible to our visitors. Great fun! An off-shoot of my web site work was becoming involved in the Academic Genealogy project which links our faculty members to their individual preceptors, etc., going back a few hundred years to a time when the science of chemistry was much different than it is today. |
