§         MSU requires your local address

§         Fill out at http://www.reg.msu.edu (under Student Services)

 

Parking Permit

§         A Graduate Assistantship is required to be eligible to obtain a permit

§         A permit can be obtained on-line at www.dpps.msu.edu if your assistantship has already been approved on the MSU system

§         If you cannot obtain the permit on-line, you will have to go to the  Dept. of Police & Public Safety on Red Cedar Road on campus

§         A copy of your appointment form is required if you need to go to DPPS

 

Paychecks

§         Fall Semester employment period begins August 16, 2008.

§         First pay date is September 11th

§         Students will be paid bi-weekly every other Friday after this date.

§         Direct Deposit can be arranged at http://www.epayroll.msu.edu

 

Room Keys for Chemistry Building

§         A key request form is required

§         You will get the form at Orientation

§         Pick up the key in the Sub-basement stockroom (B-1 Chemistry)

 

Chemistry ID & BPS Access Card

§         Allows access to the Chemistry Bldg. and the Biomedical & Physical Sciences Bldg. nights and weekends

§         The Building Access form will be included in your Orientation Folder

 

E-mail

§         Set up an e-mail account after arriving.

§          Go to room 383 Chemistry.     

§         Your PID and PAN numbers are required

§         After setting up your account, please give the Graduate Office your e-mail address.

 

 

   Housing (Before Arriving)

§         Students must arrange for housing before arriving at MSU: http://www.hfs.msu.edu/uh

§         Arrange for housing as early as possible - if you must wait until after receiving a visa, apply as soon as you receive it.

§         University Housing processes housing applications as quickly as possible. If you want a furnished apartment, you must indicate on the application that you want furniture.  You will need your PID (student number) for the housing application, but you will not need your Net ID (you can leave that question blank).  If you have not received your PID yet, you may get it from the Graduate Office through e-mail.

§         University Housing will send you an offer for an apartment if one is available.  If none are available, they may send you an offer for a room in the Owen Graduate Center.

§         After receiving an offer, students must sign and return it along with the first month’s rent.  Sometimes the first month’s rent can be paid upon arrival – with prior approval.

§         Students who will arrive after business hours (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) need to contact University Housing Service Center at 517-355-9557 before coming to MSU and arrange to pick up an apartment key.  The Service Center is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 12 Midnight.  You may also e-mail them at housing-info@uh.msu.edu. 

§         Students may contact someone in the University Housing Office concerning key pickup and first month’s rent.

 

   Roommates (Before Arriving)

   §         The Chemistry Dept. does not arrange roommates.

§         The Graduate Office can put your name, gender, and e-mail on a list of our incoming students looking for roommates – this list will be available to our new students upon request.

   Computer Enrollment

Transportation to MSU

  • Lansing Capital City Airport is the closest airport to MSU.
  • Transportation from the airport to MSU must be arranged by the student
  • A taxi will cost about $25 for up to 4 passengers.  You can call for a taxi by using the direct phone lines to the Capital Transport Service at the baggage claim area or at the main entrance of the airline terminal.
  • Buses also stop near the airport
