i>clickers
You are encouraged to purchase an i>clicker remote for inâclass participation. i>clicker is a response system that allows you to respond to questions posed during class, and you will be credited for participation. In order to receive credit for your votes, you will need to register your i>clicker remote online before the second exam. Any i>clickers not registered by the second exam will not receive credit for the semester. The i>clicker response system will be used in class, and you are responsible for bringing your remote daily.
Exams
There will be three mid-term examinations: Wednesday, February 6; Wednesday, March 13; and Wednesday, April 10. The final examination will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2012 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in accordance with the guidelines provided by the MSU Registrar's Office. All exams are cumulative. Each student is required to bring a calculator and writing utensil to all examinations. An equation sheet for each exam will be provided by the instructor. If you miss an exam for any reason, talk to your instructor immediately. It is in violation of University policy to provide false information to any agent of the University for your own gain. Make-up exams are not usually given.
Attendance
Attendance at lectures and recitations is expected but not required. In general, students who attend lecture and recitations sessions will be better prepared for the course examinations.
Classroom Behavior
Mutual respect and civility are expected in the classroom. At no time is it acceptable for a student or instructor to be mimicked, embarrassed, intimidated, or mistreated in any way. It is considered rude to talk or read newspapers during lecture or recitation. Students engaging in such activities will be dismissed from the classroom. If you know you must arrive late or leave early from class, please inform your instructor ahead of time.
Academic Honesty
Students should familiarize themselves with the General Student Regulations in Spartan Life. Any student found cheating will receive a failing grade for the term, and a letter will be sent to the student's academic dean describing the reason for the failure. This letter becomes part of the student's permanent file.
Grade Determination
The grade breakdown and grading scale will be as follows:
Grade Breakdown | |
Midterm 1 | 25% |
Midterm 2 | 25% |
Midterm 3 | 25% |
Final Exam | 25% |
Final Grade Determination | |
85.0% and above | 4.0 |
80.0% - 84.9% | 3.5 |
75.0% - 79.9% | 3.0 |
65.0% - 74.9% | 2.5 |
60.0% - 64.9% | 2.0 |
55.0% - 59.9% | 1.5 |
50.0% - 54.9% | 1.0 |
below 50.0% | 0.0 |
i>clicker extra credit
You will receive 2 points for every correct i>clicker question and 1 point for an incorrect answer. The maximum number of points will be twice the number of questions asked during the semester. The points obtained through your i>clicker will be treated as extra credit. A maximium of 5 percentage points can be added to your final grade accroding to the table below.
% of i>clicker points | extra credit |
0 - 50 | 0 |
51 - 70 | 2 |
70 - 100 | 5 |
example:
If 100 questions were asked in class a total of 200 i>clicker points would be available. If you answered 35 questions correctly, 40 questions incorrectly, and did not respond to 25 questions you would have a total of:
total = 35 * 2 + 40 * 1 + 25 * 0 = 110
55%
If your average in the class based on all exams and the final was 78%, with the addition of 2 percentage points extra credit from the i>clicker questions you would recieve a final grade of 80% (3.5) in the class.
